First Day With New Students

I’ve been back for a little over 2 weeks now. Haven’t had much time to sit down and upload pictures… until now! I wanted to share my first day activity. Usually we go through the syllabus and I, metaphorically, pull teeth to try to get to know my new group of teenagers. This year, I still had to do the syllabus routine but then put them in groups and put them to work! I gave each group a piece of foil and 6 pipe cleaners. They had to make something. ANYTHING (as long as it was school appropriate, of course). While they were working I was able to get textbooks signed out, meaning one less thing to do the next day.

So what did this have to do with my biology class? Not a whole lot. But it did give me some valuable information- how they work in groups, what they are interested in (one groups of boys made a dirt bike that I was pretty impressed with!), and which students think more creatively (I got a LOT of flowers…).
